Southern Ocean County Health System, based in Manahawkin, N.J., and Meridian Health, based in Neptune City, N.J., have agreed to merge, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
The two systems began exploring a merger in January in response to “an industry wide decline in revenue caused by dwindling government reimbursements and the recession,” according to the report.
Details of the merger have not been released, and the agreement still faces regulatory approval.
