Wildflower Health acquires Providence St. Joseph Health tech venture: 5 things to know

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Wildflower Health, a mobile health software company, acquired a women's health venture incubated by Providence St. Joseph Health, the Renton, Wash.-based health system confirmed June 21.

Wildflower Health provides decision support tools, education modules and reminders for parents to schedule immunizations and physician visits for their families. Wildflower Health's mission is to help users manage the health of their families — including children and aging parents — from a single app.

Here are five things to know about Providence St. Joseph Health's tech venture, Circle:

1. A team of clinicians from Providence St. Joseph Health created Circle to provide patients with provider-approved health resources for families, such as information on pregnancy and breastfeeding. Information from the app is also integrated into the health system's EMR.

2. Wildflower Health, which covers more than 45 million lives through its contracts with various health plans, aims to strengthen its national footprint with the acquisition. Circle is available at nearly 30 hospitals across Peoria, Ill.-based OSF Healthcare and Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health, among other healthcare organizations.

3. As part of the transaction, Providence St. Joseph Health signed a systemwide commercial agreement with Wildflower Health and committed its venture capital arm, Providence Ventures, to participate in Wildflower Health's Series C financing round.

4. Aaron Martin, executive vice president and chief digital and innovation officer at Providence St. Joseph Health and managing general partner at Providence Ventures, will also join Wildflower Health's board of directors.

"We are continually seeking new ways to engage more consumers in their health between episodes of care, with the goal of ultimately making our communities healthier through continuous digital engagement," Mr. Martin said in the health system's June 21 statement. "The combination of Wildflower Health and Circle will result in a comprehensive, personalized solution for family health and will allow PSJH to accelerate our vision of digitally engaging every family we serve."

5. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
