WellCare of Nebraska launches text message program for new mothers

Jessica Kim Cohen -

WellCare of Nebraska, a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans, rolled out a free text message program dedicated toward new mothers, the payer announced Nov. 2.

The "Baby's First" program, developed through a partnership with population health management and patient engagement solutions provider GoMo Health, offers new mothers in Nebraska access to early childhood health information related to birth to 15 months postpartum.

Through the program, a participating mother will receive one to six text messages per week, comprising videos, questionnaires and resources, among other educational content. These text messages might focus on breast feeding, developmental milestones or nutrition.

"Many new parents are overwhelmed due to all the changes a new baby brings, which can lead to questions regarding a baby's health like 'is this normal' or 'what do I do,'" said Stephen Lazoritz, MD, medical director at WellCare of Nebraska. "This program will provide our members as well as the community answers to help give their babies the best possible start in life and to support good health."
