Website advertising NRA member benefits to remove Teladoc info

Teladoc confirmed to ThinkProgress, a left-leaning American news website, Feb. 23 a third-party website advertising National Rifle Association member benefits would remove Teledoc company information.

Until recently, a website detailing NRA member benefits had advertised a $14.95 discounted monthly rate for Teladoc's 24/7 telemedicine services.

A Teladoc spokesperson told ThinkProgress the company did not have a "direct relationship with the NRA," but that its services were "made available to the NRA through a reseller." She later clarified the discounted rate was "part of a broader program, set up several years ago, that we no longer participate in."

As part of a Feb. 26 statement to Becker's Hospital Review, a Teladoc spokesperson noted the website's references to a discounted rate for Teladoc's services had since been removed.

In the wake of the Feb. 14 shooting at Parkland, Fla.-based Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, many gun control advocates have taken to social media to threaten to boycott companies maintaining relationships with the NRA. One Change.org petition asking companies to cut ties with the gun rights interest group has garnered more than 36,000 signatures.

At least 10 corporations have severed ties with the NRA during the last few weeks, according to USA Today. The majority of these businesses — spanning Delta Air Lines to cybersecurity company Symantec — had offered discounted rates to NRA members, which have since been cut.
