USDA grants Nevada $226K for telemedicine equipment

Jackie Drees -

The USDA is awarding Nevada more than $226,000 in grants to install video and audio technology needed for telemedicine appointments in rural counties.

The telemedicine technology will be used at four facilities in Elko and Lyon counties to serve more than 10,000 Nevada residents. The equipment will help support opioid prevention, treatment and recovery and will be used by medical professionals, patients and students.

"By giving Nevada's rural communities much needed access to cutting edge technology, we are providing our communities the tools, education and information they need for a healthier life," Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., said in a news release. Ms. Rosen requested the funds through the USDA's distance learning and telemedicine program, according to the report.
