Williamsport, Pa.-based UPMC Susquehanna now offers inpatient endocrinology consultations to patients at Williamsport Regional Medical Center via telehealth, the health system confirmed Jan. 19.

Through the "TeleEndocrine" program, UPMC Susquehanna endocrinologists will provide medical recommendations to care teams at Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Depending on the need and complexity of the patients' cases, this effort may involve a range of remote care functions, spanning a phone call between physicians to a live bedside telehealth visit.

UPMC Susquehanna officials plan to expand the program to additional local hospitals during the coming months.

"Telemedicine is at the forefront of modern medicine and is helping connect patients to resources that were not possible in the past," said Jan Fisher, executive vice president and COO of UPMC Susquehanna. "Through this program, we are providing innovative and quality care coordinated by world-renowned experts, right here in our communities."
