UChicago launches remote second opinion services

Mackenzie Garrity -

The University of Chicago Medicine has partnered with PinnacleCare to offer remote second opinion to patients across the country, according to a July 30 news release.

The program includes a review of a patient's medical records, collection and transfer of records and images, a written consultation report by a physician from UChicago Medicine, a debriefing with PinnacleCare medical director and transfer of the report to treating physician or team.

Patients who use the PinnacleCare VirtualConnect platform can receive opinions from physicians at some of the leading hospitals and health systems in the country, now including UChicago Medicine. The goal of the service is to offer patients a source for their questions to be answered while also giving them added support.

"The online platform is easy to use for physicians and patients and aligns with our strategic focus on using technology to improve access and convenience for patients who are not able to travel to us for care," said Nida Shekhani, executive director of business development and international programs at UChicago Medicine.
