U of Louisville pilots telehealth program for burn wound patients

Jackie Drees -

University of Louisville (Ky.) Hospital's burn center launched a telehealth pilot program to help reduce patients' barriers to follow-up care.

The program uses videoconferencing technology from BlueJeans, an audio and video communication platform, to support telehealth visits with patients. Home health providers and family members of the individuals who have burn wounds are also welcome to participate in the virtual appointments.

"Travel distance, along with often other serious health conditions, make it difficult for patients to get to a weekly appointment," said Jodi Wojcik-Marshall, MSN, manager of the University of Louisville Hospital department of advanced practice nursing, according to the news release. "We saw a need to reduce the high number of missed appointments by reducing access barriers."

Currently, the program officials are evaluating patient and provider satisfaction surveys to determine next steps for the pilot program.
