Texas hospitals team up on telehealth services for cardiology, dermatology patients

Dalhart, Texas-based Coon Memorial Hospital launched telehealth services that connect its cardiology and dermatology patients with specialists through video and audio conferencing technology, KFDA reports.

The hospital partnered with the Cardiology Center of Amarillo in Texas earlier this year so that patients can receive specialist care without needing to travel too far from home.

"Hospitals need to gather together to stay and survive because it is difficult to provide a variety of services independently," Coon Memorial Hospital CEO Loree Tamayo told KFDA. "So, there is a lot of collaboration, lots of arrangements with each other."

Coon Memorial Hospital uses a television and video camera in the patient exam room to establish a virtual connection with the Cardiology Center of Amarillo providers. The hospital is part of Dallam Hartley Counties Hospital District in Dalhart, which comprises three additional medical clinics and a home healthcare facility.
