Teladoc: 40% of employees are open to remote forms of mental healthcare

Jackie Drees -

Mental health issues are becoming more common in the workplace, with around 40 percent of employees reporting that mental health symptoms have affected their job performance, according to a recent Teladoc Health report.

For its international study on the impact of mental health stigma in the workplace, Teladoc hired U.K.-based market research firm Ipsos Mori to conduct the report. The study was completed across major international markets in the U.S., Canada, Australia and the U.K., with 3,894 total employee participants.

Six report insights:

1. Younger participants experienced more mental health challenges than older respondents, with 61 percent of individuals 18-25 years old reporting that mental health symptoms have affected their job performance.

2. Sixty-six percent of participants ages 18-25 years old said that they have missed work due to mental and emotional health.

3. Of the study participants who have experienced mental health issues in the past and received support, 71 percent said having access to professional mental health support through their workplace was an effective solution to helping them feel better.

4. Forty-three percent of respondents who said they haven't confided about their mental health to someone at work said they want remote forms of mental healthcare available.

5. Forty-three percent of employees said their workplace is not doing enough to raise awareness about mental health, and 38 percent said they would be more productive at work if there was better mental health support.

6. Employees crave more mental health transparency in the workplace, with 50 percent of respondents saying that executives and leaders who talk openly about their mental health at work encourage them to feel more comfortable about their own mental health.
