Survey: 39% of medical practices don't plan to offer telehealth services in 2018

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Medical practice leaders are steadily adopting telehealth services, but not everyone is planning to implement the technology, according to a Medical Group Management Association survey.

MGMA, an Englewood, Colo.-based association of medical practice leaders, polled 1,292 members about how their practice uses telehealth.

Twenty-six percent of respondents reported offering telehealth services, while 15 percent indicated they plan to do so in the future. These responses mark a 3 percent rise in practice leaders who have or are considering telehealth services compared to MGMA's previous poll on the subject, released January 2017.

However, 39 percent of respondents indicated they do not plan to offer telehealth services in 2018, mirroring MGMA's finding in 2017. Roughly 20 percent of practice leaders said they were unsure whether they would offer telehealth services this year.
