Stanford Children's plans to double telehealth appointments in 2019

In 2019, Stanford Children's Health in Palo Alto, Calif., expects to conduct more than double the number of telehealth visits it did in 2018.

Last year, Stanford Children's completed 1,100 visits, but this year it plans to complete 2,500. The hospital offers telehealth visits to patients for follow-up appointments, including conducting appointments clinic-to-clinic, clinic-to-home and clinic-to-school.

"Although virtual telehealth visits are not a blanket solution for everyone or every visit, they are instrumental in helping patients and families who require more care or live away from their specialists, without sacrificing that vital connection," Stanford Children's Director of Digital Health Services Vandna Mittal said. "Thanks to advances in ,medicine and science, we are able to care for more children with chronic or serious conditions than ever before, and digital health allows more flexibility and greater access to the best care available."
