St. Luke's University Health Network receives $400K grant for rural telehealth program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service awarded Bethlehem, Pa.-based - St. Luke's University Health Network $401,700 to launch a telehealth program, according to The Morning Call.

Physicians practicing at Fountain Hill, Pa.-based St. Luke's University Hospital will be able to support patients and providers at Orwigsburg, Pa.-based Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital using telehealth equipment. The health system estimates more than 140,000 underserved rural patients will gain better access to specialty care through the telehealth program.

Through the program, patients will have access to behavioral health, chronic disease management and other specialty care services.

Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital, which is currently under construction, is slated to open this year. After it opens, Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital physicians and staff also will have access to virtual professional training through the telehealth program.
