Shriners Hospitals, Covenant HealthCare partner to offer pediatric telehealth services

Shriners Hospitals for Children in Chicago and Cincinnati are joining forces with Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, Mich., to offer pediatric telehealth services to patients in Michigan, according to a Midland Daily News report.

The organizations plan on setting up telemedicine equipment at a Covenant HealthCare site, allowing patients and families in Michigan gain access to the pediatric specialists at Shriners. Shriners Hospitals physicians will be able to offer consultations using the telemedicine tools that include high-speed internet and HD cameras.

Covenant HealthCare has an established telemedicine service Covenant VirtualCare for nonemergency conditions and injuries. Shriners Hospitals has also been offering telehealth services for nearly 10 years, "however, this launch marks an advance in technology and the hospital’s agility in the continually changing delivery models for health care. It also launches the first telehealth clinic for the Chicago Shriners Hospital," Mark Niederpruem, administrator at Shriners Hospitals for Children-Chicago, told the Midland Daily News.
