Remote patient monitoring ranked top IT priority among health systems, survey finds

Large health systems consider remote patient monitoring and telehealth as their top information technology priorities, according to a Vidyo report.

Vidyo, a video software company, surveyed nearly 275 health professionals, including clinical practitioners, IT and telehealth administrators and C-suite executives, in North America for its Vidyo Telehealth Adoption Survey 2019. The survey was managed and administered by Hanover Research.

Survey participants listed implementing remote patient monitoring technologies as their highest IT priority, followed by enhancing data security measures and implementing EHR and patient portals.

Respondents said remote patient monitoring will be "extremely" and "very" advantageous for the following use cases:

· 72 percent: Preventive care management and personal device data collection.
· 64 percent: Chronic health management with or without medical devices.
· 59 percent: High-risk patient management, including fall prevention, suicide watch, telemetry.
· 58 percent: Acute care management with or without medical devices.
