More than half of US seniors would use telehealth, survey finds

Jackie Drees -

Fifty-two percent of U.S. residents over 65 years old are willing to use telehealth services, according to a recent American Well survey.

For its Telehealth Index: 2019 Senior Consumer Survey, American Well hired market research company Harris Poll to conduct an online survey of more than 2,000 adults on their opinions of regarding telehealth usage. Of the survey participants, 20 percent were ages 65 and older.

When asked what the main factor was that piqued their interest in telehealth, respondents said the following:

  • Faster healthcare service: 73 percent.
  • Save time: 58 percent.
  • Save money: 54 percent.
  • Help increase provider access: 53 percent.

Of the senior respondents who said they are willing to use telehealth, 84 percent said they would use it for prescription renewals and 67 percent said they would apply it toward managing their chronic conditions.
