How a Wisconsin health system has become a leader in telehealth

Mackenzie Garrity -

Since launching its Home Recovery Care program in September 2016, Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System has expanded the telehealth program to 250 patients and 150 treated conditions, according to the American Medical Association.

Marshfield's Home Recovery program includes home visits by a nurse, communication with a physician over a computer tablet, answering a daily questionnaire and supplying daily readings of weight, blood pressure and temperature over a 30-day period.

The health system has been able to bring readmissions down 44 percent and increase patient satisfaction by 22 percent with the telemedicine program.

As an advocate for telehealth services, Marshfield was the first healthcare organization in Wisconsin to get Medicaid reimbursement approval in 2009.
