Doctor On Demand and Grand Rounds to acquire LGBTQ health platform fresh off merger: 5 details

Hannah Mitchell -

Doctor On Demand and Grand Rounds Health have signed a definitive agreement to acquire Included Health, a comprehensive healthcare platform for patients who are LGBTQ and BIPOC.

The tentative acquisition of Included Health comes weeks after Doctor On Demand and Grand Rounds said they finalized the merger, according to a May 26 news release.

Five details:

  1. The LGBTQ community report experiencing discrimination and health-related stigmas, which can result in deferred care.

  2. A national study conducted by Included Health, which surveyed more than 1,000 LGBTQ employees from Fortune 100 companies, found nearly half of respondents reported a negative healthcare experience or faced discrimination in a healthcare setting.

  3. Included Health is a dedicated healthcare concierge and navigation platform focused on serving underserved populations, such as the LGBTQ community. Included Health is the first comprehensive health resource for LGBTQ patients and connects members with culturally competent providers, empowers members through education and provides preventative care awareness.

  4. Owen Tripp, the CEO of the combined Grand Rounds Health and Doctor on Demand, said, "Our job is to make the healthcare system work for everyone, including those who've had to survive for far too long outside it. LGBTQ people face serious discrimination in healthcare settings and are 2-3 times more likely than others to avoid care. This needs to change. So we are extremely proud to go into business and innovate, with Included Health. Rightly, employers and health plans are asking for a navigation and virtual care partner who offers integrated personalized care to all their members. We will provide it."

  5. Grand Rounds Health and Doctor on Demand finalized their merger, the company said on May 11. The merger allows the company to expand its clinical breadth. Nearly half (43 percent) of its clinical team identifies as a person of color and 20 percent are part of the LGBTQ community.
