CVS, Teladoc team up to bring telehealth to MinuteClinics

CVS Health is taking its walk-in MinuteClinics virtual through a new partnership with Teladoc Health, the company said Aug. 8.

Under the agreement, CVS Health's retail medical clinics will offer video visits that patients can access 24/7 from their mobile devices. The new offering will leverage Teladoc's platform, which patients will be able to access though the CVS Pharmacy app.

"As we continue to move the capabilities of virtual care forward, this is an exciting advancement," Teladoc CEO Jason Gorevic said in a news release. "CVS Health's expansion of their healthcare model to include video visits brings even more care delivery options to patients and Teladoc is proud to work with them on this offering."

Patients at least 2 years of age can use the MinuteClinic Video Visits feature to receive treatment for minor illnesses, minor injuries or skin conditions. If a patient requires a prescription, the remote provider will submit it to the patient's preferred pharmacy, and if in person follow-up care or testing are needed, the provider can make appropriate recommendations.

Each video visit will cost $59, payable by a credit or debit card, and CVS Health plans to add insurance coverage in the coming months. The service is currently available in nine states — Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, New Hampshire and Virginia — and Washington D.C., but CVS Health expects it to be available nationwide by the end of 2018.
