Covenant Health expands telemedicine tech, services

Jackie Drees -

Knoxville, Tenn.-based Covenant Health is increasing its use of telemedicine technology at various locations, News-Herald reports.

The health system provides remote telemedicine care for neurological and stroke patients at Fort Loudoun Medical Center in Lenoir City, Tenn. Covenant Health teamed up with Fort Loudoun's emergency department on the virtual care services, according to the report.

Covenant Health also partnered with Knoxville-based East Tennessee Children's Hospital, where it provides remote virtual assistance using telemedicine technology to the hospital's pediatric specialists for newborn care.

"I think what you're going to see in the future [with telemedicine] is that for some of these kind of more difficult to recruit specialties, this is going to become the way we provide care in more kind of remote or outlying settings," said Mike Belbeck, vice president of operations and Covenant Health, according to the report.
