Brigham and Women's taps Fruit Street Health digital platform for dementia study

Andrea Park -

Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital will utilize New York City-based Fruit Street Health's telehealth platform to observe the effects of health and lifestyle changes in a study of individuals at risk for dementia and cognitive decline.

Study participants will complete a variety of behavior changes believed to be associated with improved brain health, such as regular aerobic exercise, adherence to a Mediterranean diet and engagement in socially and cognitively stimulating activities. Researchers will use the Fruit Street platform to track participants' sleep, cognitive function, physical activity, diet and more over the course of six months; participants, meanwhile, can access personalized coaching and educational materials via the platform.

Besides Brigham and Women's, Fruit Street has also partnered with healthcare organizations such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital for studies utilizing telemedicine software. It was also the first organization to receive pending recognition status for group telehealth classes under the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program.
