Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Research Institute center was awarded $500,000 from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans' Assistance to help expand mental telehealth treatment.

The Statewide Evidence-Based Telehealh Treatment program will be offered to veterans and family members at no cost. The program builds on a Texas-based telehealth pilot program called Vet PaTHs, which delivers virtual care to veterans and family members who deal with post-traumatic stress syndrome and other mental health challenges.

The new program allows participants to use a telehealth clinic equipped with technology that supports virtual visits with providers through live video conferencing on computers or mobile devices. Clinicians with military and veteran cultural awareness training administer the program, which includes consultations with both a war veteran and licensed mental health professional.
