Baltimore hospital deploys telehealth to aid pediatric weight management

Julie Spitzer -

Baltimore-based Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital will deploy the Fruit Street telehealth platform to leverage the hospital's Weigh Smart program.

The program, which educates children and adolescents about weight management, will use the platform's video conferencing to connect registered dieticians, psychologists and other pediatric weight management specialists with patients.

These dieticians and psychologists are able to help patients monitor their health, diet and lifestyle, aided by wearable devices like Fitbits. By integrating HIPAA compliant messaging, the platform will also help patients communicate with program physicians to meet their health goals.

"The addition of Fruit Street technology will allow our patients greater freedom to connect directly with their providers from the comfort of their homes and we hope this will enhance retention and outcomes for patients involved in this program," said Michelle Demeule-Hayes, director of the Weigh Smart program.
