Avizia acquires Carena, offers telehealth to 1.3k hospitals

Reston, Va.-based Avizia, which partners with providers to deploy and power systemwide telehealth solutions, acquired Seattle-based Carena, a virtual care provider, Oct. 10.

With the acquisition of Carena, Avizia now offers a customizable telehealth platform that includes software, mobile, virtual care devices and a provider network. Avizia's platform now serves more than 1,300 U.S. hospitals.

"This acquisition combines two of the nation's leading virtual care platforms," says Mike Baird, CEO of Avizia. "With Carena's select provider network, Avizia empowers hospitals with the most comprehensive, customizable and trusted telehealth solution available."

CEO and President of Carena Ralph Derrickson will transition into the senior vice president of corporate development role at Avizia, which will maintain its corporate headquarters in Reston. Carena's Seattle office will become an integral part of Avizia's nationwide recruitment and growth strategy.
