Akos MD rolls out telehealth kiosks at Arizona supermarkets

Jackie Drees -

Akos MD, a telehealth provider, will expand the number of its kiosks for virtual care appointments at additional Arizona-based Safeway grocery stores this year, AZ Central reports.

Patients can use a walk-in Akos Med Clinic, which features an exam room and a computerized program to guide individuals in taking measurements of their health data, such as temperature, ear nose and throat images, chest sounds and blood pressure, according to the report. The patient's appointment then concludes with a video-consultation with an Akos MD physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant within the exam room.

The clinics are currently in 11 Phoenix-based Safeway stores, as well as one in Casa Grande, Ariz., and another in a Boise, Idaho-based grocery store. Akos MD and Safeway plan to add more clinics to Arizona-based stores in Tucson, Flagstaff and Prescott later this year, according to the report.

Akos Med Clinic is part of a joint venture between Akos MD and AdviNow Medical, a telehealth software company.
