Why hospitals should look to drug utilization, not price, for continued cost savings

Medication spend represents a major expense for hospitals, especially amid ever-increasing drug prices.

To help protect their bottom line, hospitals must implement cost containment strategies for drug spend. However, standardizing drug products or purchasing cheaper medications do not always offer a long-term solution. Hospitals must also analyze drug utilization to ensure continued cost savings, according to Kathy Chase, PharmD, product leader for the Drug Cost Control Service of Cardinal Health.

During a webinar sponsored by Cardinal Health, Ms. Chase will join Dave Braasch, president of Alton (Ill.) Memorial Hospital, and Susan Samet, director of clinical consultation and operations at Cardinal Health, to share how hospitals can achieve cost savings and improve patient outcomes through drug utilization-focused initiatives.

Tune in to learn how data analysis, combined with a continuous approach to supply costs management, can play a crucial role in achieving these savings.

The webinar is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, March 7. To register, click here.
