Viewpoint: Supply chain needs more diversity

Mackenzie Bean (Twitter) -

Despite some progress, the supply chain industry is still a very "white male profession," according to Lora Cecere, founder and CEO of the research firm Supply Chain Insights.

Ms. Cecere discussed the lack of supply chain management diversity in a recent article for Supply Chain Quarterly.

In Supply Chain Insights' annual supply chain talent survey, 28 percent of the respondents were female, and 57 percent were white, according to Ms. Cecere.

The survey found male and female supply chain professionals held similar goals, although women had a greater concern about working from home, flex time and commuting consideration.

The survey also found employees of color are seeking better career path opportunities, more diversity in the workplace and stronger benefits, according to Ms. Cecere.

She believes the industry should spend more time educating young women on supply chain career opportunities and reach out to more women of color during recruiting processes.
