UCHealth urges blood donations after hitting critically low supply

Harrison Cook -

Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth issued an urgent call for blood donations after several severe trauma incidents drained supplies at the health system's Fort Collins, Colo.-based Poudre Valley Hospital and Loveland, Colo.-based Medical Center of the Rockies, according to the Coloradoan.

Larisa Maristany, supervisor of UCHealth's Garth Englund Blood Donation Center in Fort Collins, issued the call for donations amid critically low local blood supplies. The center needs all blood types within the next few weeks, especially from donors with type O-negative and A-negative blood.

The local shortage comes amid a national blood supply shortage where many blood banks will only help local hospitals in emergency circumstances. All donations made to UCHealth will stay local, according to a news release cited by the Coloradoan.
