The first generic of Sabril, a heart device for premature babies, and 2 more FDA approvals

Four drugs or medical devices approved by the FDA since Jan. 11:

1. The FDA approved Teva Pharmaceutical's generic version of Sabril or vigabatrin tablets, which are used to treat complex partial seizures in patients 10 years and older. This is the first generic version of the tablets.

2. Cabometyx is now an approved treatment for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who have been treated previously with sorafenib.  

3. Amplatzer Piccolo Occluder is a medical device that can be implanted into a patient to treat a congenital heart defect called patent ductus arteriosus. The device can be used on premature babies.

4. The FDA approved the expanded use of Adacel, Sanofi's diphtheria,  pertussis and tetanus vaccine, to include a repeat vaccination against the three illnesses.
