Supply chain savings tip of the week: Think holistically about freight and transportation

Staff -

While traditional freight management programs typically look at inbound and outbound shipping expenses tied to carriers like FedEx and UPS, hospital systems should consider all transportation costs to gain a complete view of freight expenditure.

“Administrators should include couriers, which are often inconsistent in their pricing, as well as private fleets, which may be associated with hidden soft costs,” says Brad Wilson, Vice President of OptiFreight Logistics. Looking at the total freight spend, including courier, same day, private fleet, and large freight, could identify that as much as half of your total freight spend has gone uncoordinated and unmanaged. By consolidating shipments in a single location and redistributing them through the system, hospitals can reduce the unmanaged costs associated with moving goods to and from facilities.
