Roche's diabetes app recalled over software bug: 4 things to know

Mackenzie Bean (Twitter) -

Roche Diabetes Care recalled its Accu-Chek Connect diabetes management app over software issues, according to an FDA safety alert issued Feb. 15.

1. Certain iOS and Android versions of the app contain a software bug that causes the unit of measure for blood glucose to change. "This creates a risk the app might not transfer the blood glucose result or the user might not correctly input numerical values for carbohydrate used for bolus advice," the agency said in the alert.

2. Roche posted about the software bug on its Accu-Chek website June 13 and rolled out an updated version of the app to fix the bug.

3. Roche recommends users clear all data from their Accu-Chek blood glucose meter before pairing the device with the mobile app for the first time after updating.

4. The FDA said about 67,040 people were still using the older version of the app, as of Feb. 15.
