'Project Toto': CVS Health to open large distribution center in Kansas

Mackenzie Bean (Twitter) -

The speculation around "Project Toto" began in 2014 when NorthPoint Development purchased a 67-acre plot of land in a Kansas City, Kansas-based industrial park. At the time, sources said an unspecified national retail chain planned to use the land for a distribution center, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. Now, sources identify Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS Health as the retail giant behind the project.

While NorthPoint Development declined to comment on "Project Toto" news, other sources said CVS plans to either develop the 850,000-square-foot distribution center on its own or hire an outside developer, according to the report.

As of June 30, CVS Health's retail and long-term care segment included 9,652 stores and pharmacies, according to the company's most recent annual report. CVS Health's website says the company runs 17 distribution centers across 15 states, none of which are near the Kansas City area.
