Prisma Health offers free device for ventilator-sharing through J&J partnership

Physicians at Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health created a low-cost, 3D-printed connector device to help increase ventilator capacity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vesper Ventilator Expansion Splitter device is a Y-shaped connector that allows one ventilator to support two patients at once. The Vesper device has been field-tested and received emergency use authorization from the FDA.

Prisma Health has partnered with Ethicon, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson Medical devices, to manufacture and distribute the device for free to healthcare providers nationwide during the pandemic.
