Medtronic, BCBS sign value-based contract for glucose monitor

Medical technology maker Metronic and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota inked an outcomes-based agreement for Medtronic's glucose monitor, the companies said April 8.

Under the agreement, BCBS of Minnesota members with diabetes can receive the Guardian Connect smart Continuous Glucose Monitoring system as a pharmacy benefit. The organizations said doing so will lower the cost for members and the speed of delivery.

BCBS of Minnesota will tie payments to patients' percentage of time in range, using the amount of time spent in a healthy glucose range as a specific metric.
