MedTech caucus hosts Capitol Hill briefing

The congressional MedTech caucus held a briefing Thursday about technological advancements made toward curbing cardiovascular disease.

Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) and Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA), co-chairs of the caucus, hosted the briefing. Panel participants included: Cathy Jeon, MD, interventional cardiologist and Director of Medical Education and Training at Abiomed, Patrick Verta, MD, medical director at Edward Lifesciences and Jonathan R. Kaltman, MD, with the National Institutes of Health.

Topics covered in the briefing included treatment options for heart failure as well as heart disease screening and other preventive measures. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S.,and heart failure currently affects 5.7 million Americans.
