Birmingham hospital facing 'dangerously low' blood supply

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital is facing a dangerously low blood supply, and medical professionals worry transfusion services could be at risk, according to WBRC

UAB Hospital is a level 1 trauma center, so it's important for it to maintain an adequate blood supply, Marissa Marques, MD, medical director for UAB transfusion services, told WBRC

The hospital is especially low on type-O blood and platelets, according to WBRC, which is the most important blood type as anyone can receive a type-O transfusion. 

Blood specialists are asking Birmingham residents to go to the American Red Cross Donation Center and LifeSouth Community Blood Center to donate.
