Amazon tests delivery robots

Alia Paavola -

Amazon has been testing a robotic delivery vehicle in a neighborhood in Washington, according to The Seattle Times.

The six-wheeled, cooler-sized delivery vehicle, Amazon Scout, was developed at the e-commerce giant's Seattle research and development lab.

The company is testing to ensure the device can navigate successfully around pets, pedestrians or other obstacles.

The testing in Snohomish County involves six vehicles maneuvering through the streets during the day. There is an Amazon employee present. The company hopes that the vehicles eventually will be able to autonomously follow their delivery routes.

Amazon declined to say where the delivery robots would be filled or what items they would deliver.
