Christus Health Pursues Negotiations for Joint Venture With Health System in Chile

Irving, Texas-based CHRISTUS Health announced it is the sole finalist to pursue negotiations with Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, Chile, toward a definitive joint venture agreement for the ownership, operation and expansion of PUC's health network.

PUC is a Catholic Church-owned Chilean university with a health network that includes two hospital campuses totaling approximately 600 beds, 11 outpatient centers and a laboratory and imaging services network. The network is also the main teaching campus of the university's medical school.

CHRISTUS Health and PUC will complete due diligence and negotiations toward a definitive joint venture partnership agreement over the next few months, according to the release.

In the release, Ernie Sadau, president and CEO of CHRISTUS Health, said "We believe that our international expansion will help us extend our mission around the world, meeting healthcare needs that are great and deeply felt in Latin America and complement our strong position in the U.S. The partnership we create in Chile will also help us diversify our operations, increase long-term sustainability and help CHRISTUS lead the development of new, worldwide healthcare models."

CHRISTUS Health has operated a joint venture in Mexico with the seven-hospital system Grupo CHRISTUS Muguerza since 2001.
