US News: 10 best medical schools for 3 specialties

Alyssa Rege -

Alongside its No. 1 spot among U.S. News & World Report's "Best Medical Schools 2019" rankings, Boston-based Harvard Medical School ranked as the No. 1 medical school for several specialties, including anesthesiology, internal medicine and surgery.

U.S. News' rankings for the top medical schools by specialty are part of the publication's annual "Best Medical Schools 2019" list, which recognizes the top medical institutions for primary care and research.

For the specialty rankings, U.S. News solely relied on ratings data provided by medical school deans and senior faculty. The fields included among the specialty rankings are anesthesiology, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, radiology, pediatrics, internal medicine and surgery. Survey respondents each identified up to 10 schools offering the best programs in each specialty area. Medical schools receiving the most votes in each specialty were then numerically ranked based on the number of nominations they received, as long they received a minimum of seven nominations in that specialty area.
