Hampton, Va.-based Sentara CarePlex Hospital received Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

About 8 percent of U.S. hospitals have earned the designation for providing excellent patient care, demonstrating innovation in nursing practice and fostering a supportive work environment for nurses.

"Magnet designation is the highest distinction our nursing team could earn, and it truly underscores the quality of care we provide," Mark Beck, Sentara CarePlex Hospital's chief nurse executive, said in a press release emailed to Becker's Hospital Review. "I see the tremendous work our team does every day and know they are absolutely deserving of the award."

Sentara CarePlex Hospital represents Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare's seventh hospital to receive Magnet recognition.
