10 medical schools with lowest acceptance rates

Of the 118 U.S. medical schools that submitted admittance data for fall 2018 to U.S. News & World Report, the average acceptance rate for students was 6.8 percent.

U.S. News published a shortlist of the 10 medical schools with the lowest acceptance rates March 12. The average acceptance rate for those 10 schools was 2.4 percent.

The publication only considered numerically ranked medical schools for the list.

The 10 medical schools with the lowest acceptance rates for prospective students in fall 2018:

1. University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson  — 1.9 percent
2. David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (Los Angeles) — 2.1 percent
3. Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine (Rochester, Minn.) — 2.1 percent
4. Florida State University College of Medicine (Tallahassee)  — 2.4 percent
5. Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine — 2.5 percent
6. Wake Forest School of Medicine (Winston-Salem, N.C.) — 2.5 percent
7. Howard University College of Medicine (Washington, D.C.)  — 2.5 percent
8. Georgetown University School of Medicine (Washington, D.C.)  — 2.6 percent
9. The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University (Providence, R.I.) — 2.8 percent
10. Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (Camden, N.J.) — 3.0 percent
