10 major cities with the highest, lowest uninsured rates

Dallas has the highest uninsured rate among large cities in the U.S., according to an analysis by WalletHub, a personal finance website.

To identify the cities with the highest and lowest uninsured rates, WalletHub analysts compared the overall insurance rates in 548 U.S. cities in 2018 using U.S. Census Bureau data. The analysts also examined city rates based on age, race and income.

WalletHub categorized each city according to the following population-size guidelines: large city (more than 300,000 resident); midsize city (100,000 to 300,000 residents); and small city (fewer than 100,000 residents). Access additional information about the methodology here.

Here are the 10 large cities with the highest uninsured rates based on the analysis:

1. Dallas

2. Houston

3. El Paso, Texas

4. Miami

5. Fort Worth, Texas

6. Arlington, Texas

7. Corpus Christi, Texas

8. San Antonio

9. Tulsa, Okla.

10. Oklahoma City

Here are the 10 large cities with the lowest uninsured rates based on the analysis:

1. Washington, D.C.

2. San Francisco

3. Boston

4. Honolulu

5. Seattle

6. San Jose, Calif.

7. Pittsburgh

8. Sacramento, Calif.

9. Louisville, Ky.

10. Minneapolis
