UnitedHealth Group Net Earnings Hit $1.3B in 3Q

UnitedHealth Group, parent company of health insurer UnitedHealthcare, recorded net earnings of $1.3 billion in the third quarter of 2011, which was slightly up from its 2010 third quarter results, according to a company news release (pdf).

UnitedHealth recorded revenues of $25.3 billion in the third quarter, a 7 percent increase from its 2010 third quarter revenues of $23.7 billion. UnitedHealthcare alone recorded revenues of $23.6 billion in the third quarter, a 6 percent increase from the 2010 third quarter. The insurer said its overall revenue growth was driven by an increase of its enrollment, which included 220,000 people in third quarter of 2011.  

UnitedHealth now forecasts its total 2011 revenues to exceed $101 billion, which is higher than its previous outlook.
