Survey Finds 73% of Hospitals Agree RACs Reduce Fraud; 60% Say Process Unfair

An IVANS survey found that while 73 percent of hospitals agree that the Recovery Audit Contractor Program helps reduce fraud and errors in the industry, 60 percent do not think the audit process is fair, according to a company news release.

Responses to the IVANS 2011 RAC Audit Survey showed some of the burdens of the RAC program include the extra time and money needed to substantiate a RAC claim and disruptions to administrative workflow due to audit frequency. Respondents also said the review process is too subjective and they need guidance on reducing future audits.
