Legacy Salmon Creek in Washington Partners with Kaiser

Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash., has signed a seven-year deal with Kaiser Permanente Northwest to treat the insurer's 100,000 local beneficiaries in network, replacing nearby PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center's previous agreement, according to a report by The Columbian.

Details of the contract, which takes effect Oct. 1, were not disclosed. Legacy's expected increase in patient volume resulting from the deal will lead to 200 new staff positions and make up for the 20 positions that were cut last year, according to the report.

The non-profit PeaceHeath, based in Bellingham, Wash., will continue to treat Kaiser's beneficiaries through Oct. 1. PeaceHealth officials said relations began to fray in the 15-year partnership with Kaiser, which began referring patients away from Southwest to its own facility in Clackamas, Ore. The officials cautioned the same could be true in Legacy’s partnership.
