California Hospital Offers 25% Discount to Patients Who Pay Bills Quickly

Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., is offering a 25 percent discount to patients with health insurance who pay their bills promptly and up to 50 percent off for patients who don't have insurance, according to a Marin Independent Journal report.

The report said patients with insurance are eligible for the 25 percent reduction if they pay their deductible at the point of service or when they are discharged. However, the discount may also be extended if the hospital does not know the exact amount owed when the patient leaves.

Those without insurance will automatically receive 40 percent off their bill and will earn the additional 10 percent off if they pay the bill on time.

"We're trying to make it an amount that is reasonable for them to pay," Marin General CFO David Cox said in the report. "Also when they pay quickly, it saves us a lot of money on the back end because we don't have to do all the billing."
