The CDC's National Center for Health Statistics will add a new diagnosis code for vaping-related illnesses to ICD-10 on April 1, reports AHA News.

CMS updated its software for inpatient prospective payment system claims to accommodate the new code, U07.0.

The CDC is rolling out the new diagnosis code in response to the recent surge in vaping-associated lung illnesses. As of Jan. 28, the CDC has reported more than 2,700 hospitalizations and 60 deaths linked to vaping-related illnesses.
