The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is offering several resources to help both healthcare organizations and community partners lower rates of suicide among veterans, the American Hospital Association reports.
Those resources include national hotline for family or friends of veterans seeking care for them, a community provider toolkit and a suicide prevention guide for families of veterans.
For healthcare providers, the VA offers a literature review series that can help clinicians translate research and implement it in the care they provide for veterans. It also provides access to a pocket card that gives clinicians suggestions on how to talk with veteran patients about various issues, including safe firearm and medication storage.
