Starting in 2020, U.S. News & World Report will use objective data and outcomes measures to compile its rehabilitation hospital ranking, the publication announced March 6.

At present, the publication relies on expert opinion alone to rank hospitals’ performance in the following four specialties: rehabilitation, ophthalmology, psychiatry and rheumatology.

U.S. News will now use data from CMS’ Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Compare and the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey Database to compile its 2020-21 Best Hospitals for Rehabilitation ranking. One such measure will likely be rehab facilities’ risk-adjusted readmission rate, which is calculated by CMS, U.S. News said.
