The Eugene-based university experienced a scare last month when a different student was diagnosed with a bacterial infection that causes meningitis.
The student who died was the fourth at the school to have confirmed being infected with meningococcemia, but the only UO student to die from the infection. The other three students are all recovering, according to the university.
Following the student death, the university announced plans for a “full-scale vaccination program” that will begin in March, although increased clinical staff will be available in the meantime to offer vaccinations.
